What Is An Alexa Skill?
An Alexa skill is an app for the Amazon Alexa voice assistant. Just like smartphones have apps that let you check the weather, play games, and more, Amazon Alexa has “skills” that let you check the weather, play games, and more.
You may have heard of Amazon Alexa, the smart AI voice assistant made by Amazon. Just like Siri (by Apple), you can talk to Alexa and she’ll answer you. For example, you can say, “What’s the weather in Paris?” and she’ll respond:
“Currently, the weather in Paris is 57 degrees Fahrenheit with cloudy skies. Today you can look for rainy weather, with a high of 61 degrees and a low of 51 degrees.”
You can use Alexa to listen to the news, play games, ask the status of deliveries, and more. See all the different skills Alexa has on the Amazon Alexa skills page.
How do I use Alexa skills?
Alexa and her skills are available in all kinds of devices: Smart speakers made by Amazon and other companies, mobile phones, computers, and tablets, and even mobile accessories.
To use an Alexa skill on your smart speaker device, just say “Alexa,” followed by the name of the skill you want. If you’re not sure what skill you want, ask, “Alexa, what skills do you have?”
You can also use Alexa on your smartphone, computer, or tablet. Learn how here.
How many Alexa skills are there in 2020?
As of October 1, 2019, Amazon said there were over 100,000 Alexa skills. By now there are probably many more!
